The Adventure

Troubling times can galvanize the Hero within us.   We all have special powers to discover but to find them we must answer the Call and become who we are meant to be.

Do you love Star Wars, The Wizard of Oz, and Casablanca? Stories that inspire us are often examples of the Hero’s Journey. Luke learns to use the Force. Dorothy discovers that she had the power to go home all along. Rick sacrifices his self-centered cynicism to help the greater good. On the journey, our Hero usually meets a mentor and guide, like Obi-Wan Kenobi or Glenda the Good Witch.

When the student is ready, the teacher appears.

Heroes are people who dedicate their lives to something bigger than themselves.

Part of the Hero’s Journey is traveling through the maze of challenges you may be facing like fear of criticism and judgement, both from yourself and others,  not owning your gifts, and not claiming your power.

Instead of struggling with the parts of yourself that are scared or critical, by making friends with them you team up with your greatest allies and align from your whole self with your deepest purpose to guide you.

When we begin to view our problems as the challenges that hold the greatest potential to transform us, we take …

 The Hero’s Leap

“Leap and the net will appear.”

– John Burroughs

When you take the leap …

You land in your body, get clear about who you really are, find your flow, and fall in love with your own life.

Fully embodying your own largest Self is the KEY to growing your practice, making more money and having a greater impact on the world.

“In 2013, I hired Lucinda as my private coach to apply Focusing to creating the life I want. We’ve covered the gamut of all my personal and professional issues – health, money and relationships – as well as general well-being and happiness. She’s helped me work through some stuck places caused by childhood trauma that had previously blocked me from creating more success, expanding my impact, making more money and becoming the more influential speaker that I am today. Lucinda’s masterful ability in helping these painful issues become right-sized has allowed me to move beyond them.

Lucinda is a person of great skill, wisdom, insight, creativity, professionalism, and enthusiasm.
I highly recommend Lucinda’s very specialized expertise of combining applied Focusing and hypnotherapy with an overall coaching approach.”

Lucinda as Your Guide

Healer – Teacher – Visionary – Leader

One of my clients said that she felt like I was holding her hand, leading her through a maze and guiding her to the right path so that she didn’t get lost in the dead ends. I understand because I’ve gotten stuck in those dead ends myself and I’ve discovered how to get out of them.

I’ve taken the Hero’s Leap many times in my life. From moving to Paris to learn French when I was 20, to leaving a college teaching position and follow my bliss by going into private practice in 1988, first as a Clinical Hypnotherapist, then also as a Certified Focusing Practitioner.

The Hero’s Leap is a leap in consciousness from feeling like a victim of my circumstances to the Hero of My Own Story.  It’s not a one-time thingEvery day, I practice staying in the larger awareness of what IS working well in my life rather than getting caught up in what’s not working.

When I was a child, I fell in love with Greek and Celtic mythology and their stories of heroes, gods and goddesses. As an adult, I discovered that the myths I loved as a child are archetypes: universal symbols and principles that guide every culture. I’ve been inspired by the work of Joseph Campbell since first watching The Power of Myth in 1988 and in 1992 started studying intensively for 16 years with the brilliant cultural anthropologist and shamanic teacher, Angeles Arrien. I’ve created my own unique synthesis of  The Hero’s Journey and The Four-Fold Way with The Hero’s Leap.

I couldn’t ignore my calling. So I took a leap—and nearly drowned. Even though my thinking was transformative, the nonprofit I led wasn’t…transforming. Then I turned to Lucinda. She showed me how to connect authentically with staff, partners, and donors all over the world. Revenue tripled. Social impact grew even more.

That was in 2003. I’ve worked with Lucinda at crucial moments ever since. She has consistently helped me find tangible, lasting change—professionally and personally. I’ve become the kind of leader that turns crisis into creative growth. I’m more effective with myself, other individuals, and teams. My writing is more powerful. The talks I give connect on a deeper level. I empower bigger, better clients.

I’m still making leaps. And every time, I use the tools Lucinda gave me.

In 2008 when I decided to expand my business teaching Focusing, Lucinda was the first person I invited to join me and she has been a co-creator of the vision of Focusing Resources from the very beginning.  As a colleague she is as open to others’ ideas as to her own, creating a richly empowering atmosphere of mutual creation and action.  Lucinda’s support has been indispensable to making Focusing Resources an effective and growing organization to bring Focusing skills to many kinds of people in many kinds of modalities.
